A short drive from Fort Myers Beach, just follow Estero Blvd to Lovers Key and you’ll find Dog Beach just after the entrance to the State Park. This secluded Lee County beach is one of the few regions in Florida where dogs can stretch their paws on the beach.

Head for the small, but pretty, strip of sand known as Dog Beach and let your pal have fun off leash. Enjoy a romp in the shallow sea, followed by a run along the beach and a refreshing wash at one of the specially designated doggie shower stations on site.

Useful tip: Dog Beach is almost covered by water at exceptionally high tides, so check before going.

Stay: Best Western Plus Beach Resort has pet-friendly rooms overlooking the Bay of Mexico.

Camber Sands is a fine sand beach on the coast of Sussex, a two-hour drive from London. Most of the beaches in this part of the UK are covered in pebbles or shingle, but, as its name suggests, Camber Sands is a stunning golden sand beach that stretches for seven kilometres along a strip of ruggedly picturesque coastline close to the charming town of Hastings.
