Dogs Left for Dead Flee Puerto Rico to Sanctuary in New York

WHO: Pets Alive Rescue Response Team, Pets Alive Puerto Rico Transport Crew, Animal Welfare Advocates.

WHAT: With hundreds of passengers to escort them to safety, 20 puppies and dogs rescued from Dead Dog Beach in Puerto Rico, will disembark two separate American Airlines Flights. Welcomed by the Pets Alive Rescue Response Team, they will board specially equipped quarantine vans and complete their long journey to Pets Alive Animal Sanctuary in Middletown, NY where they will receive medical care and await adoption.

Details:
Rescued from a place where animal abuse is sport and at the same time a felony, these beautiful dogs are completing the last leg of a long journey to freedom. Dead Dog Beach exists in Puerto Rico- a commonwealth of the United States. There are approximately 250,000 stray dogs on the island the size of Connecticut – with only 5 shelters to care for them. The kill rate at these shelters is 99%. Together with the help of animal lovers nationwide, Pets Alive is working to eradicate the abuse and abandonment of stray animals in Puerto Rico, and will launch a massive PR campaign promoting humane education. In late 2011 Pets Alive will open a sanctuary and rescue bed and breakfast location in Puerto Rico.

How You Can Help:
The best way to help is to donate. Donations are urgently needed to support the medical needs and transport of each rescued dog. Each dog will also need a soft kuranda bed of their own to rest, and toys to play with while awaiting adoption. To make a donation and learn more about the dogs, go to www.petsalive.org.

About Pets Alive:

Pets Alive Westchester (formerly the Elmsford Animal Shelter) is located in Elmsford, NY. In late 2011, Pets Alive will open a sanctuary in Puerto Rico with a rescue retreat bed and breakfast, to rescue the abused and abandoned animals along the beaches and promote humane education.
