FIDO Friendly Subscriber Spotlight - Meet Warrior and Michelle

This week’s Subscriber Spotlight features Michelle Charvat and her FIDO Warrior.

Warrior is an American Staffordshire Terrier mix that I played a role in saving along with her family 2 ½ years ago. I live in Ohio and she was found in an abandoned house in Nevada just days old. The very first picture I saw of her was as a tiny baby I knew she was born to be mine. I just didn’t realize why.

After contacting the rescue that removed Warrior and her family from the local pound before they were all euthanized, I adopted her. Knowing she was thousands of miles away did not stop me, she flew home. When Warrior was just 7 months old, she showed me why I knew she was born to be mine. I have been a Type 1 diabetic for a long time and have low blood sugars mainly during the night and I do not always feel them and sleep through. Warrior awoke me from one and she would not stop rubbing her cold nose all over me or licking me until I sat up in bed. She has done this several times since and has had no training to detect when it happens. I saved her life and she in turn saved mine.

I am a firm believer in the motto “Don’t shop, adopt” and this proves that shelter dogs are truly amazing. You never know what a shelter dog can do. They are forever grateful to be given a loving family and home just as I will always be grateful for Warrior.

PS - In this picture of Warrior and her siblings, she is the one towards the bottom closest to the wall using her sibling as a pillow. That was the very first picture of her that I saw.
