This week’s Subscriber Spotlight features Jim Taylor and his FIDO Pia Pia and The Return to Hollywood Studios, FL

Eight years ago, Jim Taylor went on vacation with his family to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.   While waiting in line for a ride, he was confronted with an overwhelming fight or flee feeling, his Post Traumatic Stress came upon him full force.  He fled the area in an instance, leaving his family in confusion.  Once outside of the ride, his family caught up with him to a very distraught with sweat pouring down him.  Needless to say, the Taylor family left the park as well as gave up their vacation to return to Vero Beach.

Jim became homebound.  He did not leave his home to go to the store, mall or anywhere.   Nearly two years after that incident they adopted a pug, Pia Pia.  Pia Pia was to keep him company at home so his wife could shop and run errands.  Shortly after Pia Pia’s adoption they were introduced to Dogs for Life who showed Jim how Pia Pia could do more for him than just keeping him company.  Jim also has hearing loss along with his Post Traumatic Stress so Pia Pia was trained to be a service dog.  She alerts Jim when the doorbell/door knock, if he fall she dials 911 on a special phone, the fire alarm sounds, she keeps people away from me and that is to name a few tasks.

Bringing us to May of 2015, Jim returned to Disney Hollywood Studios with Pia Pia.  Needless to say, it was an overwhelming feeling to start with just being back there but with Pia Pia by his side Jim managed the crowds.  He was able to view a few performances, he was able to sit and converse with others, and just be out walking the park.  Though they did not stay all day, they stayed a good portion of the day and enjoyed the time at the park compared to the last time there.

FIDO sends lots of wags and good wishes to Jim and Pia Pia for their continued progress and we thank them for sharing their inspiring story!
