What’s New at Portland’s Dog Friendly Heathman Hotel? Beverages, Bicycles & Books!

Heathman Hotel, the iconic Portland luxury hotel offers guests who travel with their four-legged friends and stay at the Heathman now enjoy Provenance Hotels’ pet program which includes rooms stocked with eco-friendly pet beds, pet bowls, a treat and toy.  For safety sake, each pet who checks in receives a dog tag that says “My home away from home in Portland is the Heathman Hotel.” Owners can also borrow books on pet massage and the best dog-friendly hikes in Oregon during their stay. (Pet guests are charged a once-per-stay fee of $45)

And just in time for summer they have rolled out a bevy of new offerings designed to make the hotel’s guest experience even more immersive and reflective of the city’s enviable lifestyle. From made-in-Oregon honor bar items to in-room delivery of local ice cream, perfect pillows and even your preferred book of faith, the Heathman Hotel is upping the ante on Portland amenities. Guests can now sip local beverages all day long, borrow a bicycle and explore the city and peruse the hotel’s private library – and the best part? Nearly all the exciting new offerings at the Heathman are included in the cost of a stay.

The new amenities available to every guest as part of their stay are both indulgent and inspirational. The Heathman Hotel joined the Provenance Hotels collection of independent lifestyle hotels in February 2017 and, over the past few months, the company has implemented their signature pillow and spiritual menus. The hotel will now deliver guests’ preferred pillow options and book of faith – the Bible, Torah, Koran, Tao de Ching and more are on hand – right to their room. If artistic inspiration is of more interest, the Heathman has guests covered there, too. For performing arts lovers, the Heathman offers hotel guests who have tickets to shows at the adjacent Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall exclusive access to the hotel’s private entrance to the theater – the same entrance performers use when they stay at the hotel.

As part of their stay, every guest at the literature-loving Heathman also enjoys exclusive access to one of the largest autographed libraries in the world. Recognized by AAA as the only independent hotel in the country to offer a lending library of this size and scope, the Heathman’s outstanding collection includes signed editions from Nobel and Pulitzer Prize-winners, U.S. Poet Laureates and a former United States President. The 2,700 volumes represent the collected works of more than 30 years of literary guests who have signed their books to contribute to the collection. Staff can recommend and check out books so guests can enjoy them in their luxury room or suite.

Guests at the Heathman will also find an array of energizing, intoxicating and refreshing locally-inspired sips included in the cost of their stay. When guests check in, they are greeted with a glass of bubbly from Argyle winery, located in Oregon’s famed Willamette Valley. Each morning, they can find an elevated coffee and tea service set up in the hotel’s Tea Court Lounge featuring an array of teas from Portland’s Smith Teamaker and, every afternoon, they can grab a refreshing glass of a seasonal, local drink in the Tea Court Lounge. Right now, the Heathman is serving iced tea from Smith Teamaker. In cooler weather, guests can expect hot cocoa, spiced apple cider and the like.

The happiest hour of the day at the Heathman is between 5 and 6 p.m. when the hotel hosts a Local Spirts Social exclusively for guests. Designed to celebrate the vast array of spirits distilled in the Pacific Northwest, the Heathman’s Local Spirts Social is currently showcasing Oregon-made bourbons like Portland’s Burnside Bourbon, Trail’s End from Hood River, Broken Top from Sisters and Stein Distillery’s bourbon from Joseph. Every day, as part of the cost of their stay, guests at the Heathman can sip a featured bourbon neat, on the rocks or mixed with a house-made craft cocktail mixer in the hotel’s Library and, once a week, distillery representatives are on hand to walk guest through tasting the featured spirit and answer any questions they may have. Throughout the year, the Heathman Local Spirit Social will focus on the full range of spirits distilled around the region.

When it comes time to get out and about, guests of the Heathman can put the pedal to the pavement and borrow one of the hotel’s new Shinola bicycles as they head out to explore this bike-friendly city. Provenance Hotels has long partnered with the Detroit-based cult purveyor of luxury bicycles, watches and leathercraft. Now, as part of the collection, the Heathman Hotel is on board with two sets of his and hers Shinola bicycles – and helmets, of course – on-hand for guests to use at their leisure.

In addition to all the amenities that are included in the cost of each guest’s stay, Provenance Hotels have implemented their most popular and delicious programs at the Heathman Hotel. The company has been partners of Portland’s most famous and beloved ice creamery, Salt & Straw, for years and the Heathman has joined its other Portland hotels – Hotel Lucia, Sentinel and Hotel deLuxe – in offering guests who stay at the property the opportunity to order pints for delivery to their guestroom. Each pint is priced at $12 and the Heathman’s Salt & Straw menu features four of the brand’s most popular Classic Portland flavors – Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons, Almond Brittle with Chocolate Ganache, Strawberry Honey Balsamic with Black Pepper and Freckled Woodblock Chocolate – as well as a seasonally rotating flavor. Guestrooms at the Heathman are now feature upgraded, locally-inspired honor bar items driven by Provenance Hotels’ deep relationships in the community. These include locally-distilled vodka, bourbon and gin from House Spirits and Dogwood Distilling, chocolate from Xoxolatl de David, olive oil from the Willamette Valley’s Red Ridge Farms, sea salt harvested on the Oregon coast by Jacobsen Salt, and more. Items in the Heathman’s honor bar are individually priced and charged upon consumption.
