Canine Cocktails, Anyone?

Downtown San Diego unleashes plenty of “mutts-sees.”
By Arden Moore
In dog years, I am now the same age as Chipper, my Golden retriever/Husky mix, who is seven. With our birthdays just one day apart, I knew the perfect place to celebrate with her and my other dog, Cleo: downtown San Diego.
At Canine Cocktails, no need for a designated driver for Fido. All canines are treated to bottled water and healthy treats dished up by local vendors. Enjoy libations from the bar, including the signature Blue Indigo Phi martini. The hotel donates $1 per drink to the San Diego Humane Society. And, local merchants stage drawings for free pet product giveaways.
Check out some the canine cocktail hour:

It is great to hear how people want to celebrate special events with their dogs! Here in Hliton Head, South Carolina, we have a number of restaurants that have full canine menus! Lucky Dog Cuisine provides the meals. Many of the restaurants give the proceeds to local animal shelters. Bistro 17 supports Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. We would love to challenge west coast restaurants and hotels to an east – west competion to see who can raise the most money through their dog-friendly restaurants. It is an easy and fun way to get people involved in giving to animal causes.
We have 7 restaurants who want to participate here on the east coast. How about you out in the West?

This was very helpful! I will be going to happy hour with my boy Ramsey at Indigo tonight, so thanks!
I did want to mention that the website “downtown dog lover” hasn’t been updated in a while (August 2009) so I wouldn’t post that site on your blog. Other than that, great ideas!

Demo and I go to Canine Cocktails every month with the schnauzer meetup I organize. It’s always a blast.
