Celebrity Dog Pawing it Forward

Superheroes TurfMutt & the Outdoor Powers teach kids and families backyard science.

By Susan Sims, Publisher

This is a true rags-to-riches story of a dog called Lucky When you ask Kris Kiser, President and CEO of the Outdoor Power Equip-ment Institute who found Lucky living on the streets, he will be the first to tell you the moniker didn’t quite fit the dog at the time.

“He was in tough shape when I got him” says Kris. “He was a poor rescue pup living on the street who has become very successful, and become a celebrity dog who is ‘pawing it forward’ for others.”

Lucky is a normal dog until he dons his super hero cape and becomes TurfMutt to help educate children and parents about the wonders of the backyard. Lesson plans and at home activities for parents and teachers for grades K-2 and 3-5 can be found on scholastic.com/TurfMutt. There are digi-tal storybooks available for download featuring Saving the Planet, One Yard at a Time and The West Coast Mission along with video tips to Go Green.
