Dunedin aka Dogedin
If you come back in your next life as a dog be sure to live that life in Dunedin, Florida.

Traveling for FIDO Friendly magazine to sniff out hotels and destinations for purpose of review is a ‘ruff’ job, but someone has to do it. I had the opportunity to visit Dunedin recently and became enchanted with the city, its people and its dog-gone Fido-friendliness at every corner.
As pet-friendly destinations grow in popularity all across the United States, one located north of St. Petersburg / Clearwater on Florida’s gulf coast is emerging as top dog, year-round: The City of Dunedin, which has earned the nickname “Dogedin”— and for good reason!
With dog-friendly restaurants, canine-welcoming cafes, dog parks, beaches and public murals of the furry loved ones who call Dunedin home, the City is the perfect summer destination for pets and their families.
Home base for this trip was the Fido-friendly Best Western Plus Yacht Harbor Inn overlooking St. Joseph’s Sound and within walking distance to downtown. All Fido-friendly units are on the ground floor with their own entrance—making it easy for pups to come and go—and feature a fully equipped kitchen. Nearby located in the picturesque waterfront setting of Dunedin Marina, Bon Appetit restaurant has been serving exceptional cuisine for 40 years, Voted Tampa Bay’s “Best Waterfront Restaurant”, Bon Appetit’s diverse menu includes options for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner and Fido is welcome to dine with you al fresco at the Marina Café at Bon Appetit.
Dunedin is the Home of Honeymoon Island and a trip to Honeymoon Island Dog Beach where Fido can frolic in clear blue water is a must for any truly serious dog lover. Dogs on leashes are allowed in designated areas including the pet beach on the southern tip of the island and on the nature trail. A dog wash area is available to rinse off the salt water and sand before heading out to your next adventure. No need to leave hungry as Café Honeymoon Island offers outdoor patio seating.
