“Unconditional,” a new adult children’s fictional novel by Providence, Rhode Island-based author Virginia A. Rockhill, Ph.D, subtly confronts today’s toughest moral issues through the lives of a group of very innocent and differing wild animals. The author tells a tale of how the group’s acceptance of one another, team work and unconditional love can overcome anything, hopefully communicating to young adults that there is hope in today’s troubled world.
“Today’s young adults are bombarded by issues the moment they step out of their homes,” said Rockhill, a licensed psychologist. “In a world where kids can’t even go to school and feel safe from the influences of evil, there has to be a way we can communicate hope. “Unconditional” is my attempt to illustrate through the innocence of animals that there is a better way.”
The story unfolds with the friendship (based on a real life story) between a frog (Mr. Toad) and a dog (Abbie), two of the most unlikely companions in the world. Watching through the ceiling to floor windows in Abbie’s mom’s apartment, the two begin to see things below that don’t seem okay. Mr. Toad goes to investigate and so begins the adventure involving all the animals who work together to foil the plot of the evil scientist trying to destroy their habitats and environment to achieve power and riches.
