BioUrn-What To Expect When You Lose Your Beloved Pet

By Judy helm Wright, Pet Grief Coach

Anatole France has been quoted as saying “Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.”

Grief is Normal

When we lose a pet, friend, parent, child, or anyone who has brought meaning to our lives we grieve and mourn.  Our hearts are sore and our emotions are raw.  We feel vulnerable and sensitive to what is said and even more so what is left unsaid. Some people have felt they “were going crazy” and that others could not understand how sad they were. Many people, even those who own pets, can’t understand the depth of sadness over the loss of a beloved pet.

For many people who have had a pet cross the Rainbow Bridge, the grief is deeper than it was for the death of a relative or friend.  The pet represents complete and unconditional love and understanding, which may be very different than their human relationships.

Grief is Individual

Life and death can be mysterious and have many layers of emotions surrounding them.  Hidden issues and old patterns of behavior may come forth when the heart is raw and open and the soul is exposed.  Grief work is individual, personal and progresses at the pace only you are comfortable with.

It is difficult to give anyone a timetable for mourning or grieving the loss of a beloved pet.  For some a few weeks, months, or even a year is more than enough to get back to regular life.  For others just the thought of their beloved pet may bring tears for two or more years.

Memorials & Tributes

It has been my experience that those grieving the loss of a loved one, whether two or four legged, find it helps to have a memorial service of some kind. National Pet Memorial Day brings to mind a very special way of memorializing our wonderful human animal bond, offered by My Eternal Family Tree and their unique product called "BioUrn". BioUrn is a biodegradable cremation urn that holds the ashes of your beloved companion along with soil and a seed. Once prepared and planted, it grows a memorial tree. This beautiful circle-of-life tribute to a beloved pet gives back to the earth and blooms eternal.  BioUrn provides a thoughtful and loving way to honor our planet, our pets and the people who love them.

BioUrn is handmade in the USA offered by My Eternal Family Tree, a Veteran Owned Business. Visit
