Buddy Belts: Product Review

Imagine the pleasure of going for a walk with one of your best friends. Think about the things you would do to get ready for the walk. You’d put on walking clothes (nobody goes for a walk in a cocktail dress!), comfortable shoes, grab a bottle of water and maybe even put on a hat and sunglasses. In all of those preparations, what did you do for Fido? Okay, you might have packed up the trusty tennis ball and a bowl so that he can share your water. But I bet you just took him for a walk using his everyday leash and collar. I say this, because I’ve done it.
What if there was a better option for Fido? What if you could ensure that their walk is just as relaxed and comfortable as yours is? The good news is that you can make their walk more enjoyable. Buddy Belt harnesses are designed with comfort and ease in mind. Buddy Belts were designed to remove pressure from your dog’s trachea (windpipe) and neck during walks. Although we all wish our dogs were perfectly behaved on walks, I think the majority of dogs pull for at least part of the walk (especially when you get close to the dog park!). A dog that pulls while wearing a collar runs the risk of damaging their trachea and/or their neck because of the force coming through the collar and leash. A harness redistributes that tension and force away from those areas, and through the body instead.
What makes Buddy Belt harnesses a step better than the rest is the fact that they’re made from 100% genuine leather and quality fasteners, and customer satisfaction is guaranteed. They fasten in one spot only (the shoulders), which makes them very easy to get on and off your dog. My old dog Farley and I were thrilled when we were offered the opportunity to try out the Buddy Belt. Farley loves to go for walks, but because of back issues (he’s an older dog), I don’t take him very often. I was excited to have something that could potentially make our walks safer for him, thus making them more enjoyable for me. Ordering the Buddy Belt was easy – I took one measurement around his body, just behind his elbows, and checked out the Buddy Belt website to figure out which size we’d need. And then we waited for the mail to arrive.
The Buddy Belt was easy to put on, and Farley and I were soon off on an adventure. I’m fairly certain he had an extra bounce in his step as he trotted down the street in his pumpkin Buddy Belt with bling on it and the matching leash. I know he felt no restriction at all from the harness straps, as he ran around like a crazy dog when I let him off leash. We walked for about 40 minutes, and not once did he shake his body or sit down to scratch, as he often does with his collars. When we got home, I took the harness off to check him over for any evidence of rubbing or chafing, but there was none. As an additional experiment, I let Farley wear the Buddy Belt for a day around the house. I took off his collar and bandana and just had him in the harness. He didn’t scratch at it once (again, this is something he typically does several times a day with collars), and he was happy to roam around the house and backyard with the harness on.
The customer service at Buddy Belts was fantastic, and we love the product. Farley will never be walked with a regular leash and collar again. We most definitely give the Buddy Belt harness 5 out of 5 paws!
