Dog book review: Chasing Bocker’s Tale

Tale as old as time, true as it can be.

Part of the lyrics from Beauty and the Beast resonated to me when I read Chasing Bocker’s Tale, a lovely story that weaves life lessons and Bocker-isms (who is a gorgeous Labradoodle) into prose so fittingly tail wagging.

This is a read for kids and adults of all ages; without being cliché, I smiled throughout. The imagery is just as important, as we the reader get to experience the life force that is Bocker.

All of our dogs are special. What made Bocker’s mom and crew go to work on this book and tell the story of this extra special pooch is classic: Bocker has starred in national ads and television commercials but he also helps shelters and rescues, children in need, and people from all walks of life. He is a celebri-dog in more ways than one. He also graces the pages of FIDO Friendly magazine’s next issue.

Most enjoyable is the narration, so cleverly told by Bocker. The chapter about the Rainbow Bridge is so heartfelt, having loved and lost a special dog of my own. To “hear” Bocker experience grief, from his vantage point, was both refreshing and enlightening. If you’ve ever wondered what a dog might feel when losing someone special, Bocker can fill you in.

Of course, rambunctious ramblings and mutterings are all included, so expect to smile, laugh, and ponder as you turn the pages. There is something so joyful about holding a book, tenderly touching the pages as they enter your heart, and this is one of those “keepers” for the bookshelf of life… just like Bocker himself: A Keeper.
