Dogs Seized, Held as Evidence for Three Years, Rescued

Pets Alive Animal Sanctuary is situated on 80 acres at the foothills of the Catskill Mountains about 90 minutes from New York City. Far from the city’s urban hustle are animals rescued from other shelters and euthanasia lists both locally and internationally. During a recent summer rescue, 20 puppies and dogs from Dead Dog Beach in Puerto Rico were transported to Pets Alive. Rob and Marisol adopted Ollie, one of the dogs from the Puerto Rico rescue.

In our fall issue, ready to roll out, Matchbox20 and solo rock star, Rob Thomas, gaves us an exclusive interview. And Pets Alive has done it again.

Two dogs confiscated in a dog fighting ring bust in North Carolina that made national headlines, will find freedom at Pets Alive Animal Sanctuary in Middletown NY. The dogs were imprisoned, held as evidence, with no human interaction for three years during court proceedings.

When court proceedings were completed, the dogs were ordered euthanized. Pets Alive executive director Kerry Clair worked with other supporters to compel the courts to relinquish custody. After many months, a decision was finally made and Pets Alive was given just ONE hour to get the dogs out.

The dogs will live at the 80 acre sanctuary while awaiting adoption, where they will receive training, daily walks and exercise, and much needed TLC from staff and volunteers.  Pets Alive is internationally recognized as a leader in no kill animal rescue and routinely rescues last chance animals.

Pets Alive is currently home to Scrappy, another dog fighting ring bust evidence dog. Scrappy was held for a year as part of a Bronx, New York court case before being released to Pets Alive. In spite of his past, Scrappy loves people, is a volunteer favorite and is up for adoption. Pets Alive anticipates the same demeanor from the two new evidence dogs.

The best way to help is to donate. Donations are urgently needed to support the medical and training needs of these two dogs. Each dog will need a kuranda bed of their own to rest and toys to play with while awaiting adoption. To make a donation and learn more about the dogs, go to www.petsalive.com.

Pets Alive is a 501(c) 3 non-profit charity operating solely on individual donations, receiving no funding from city or state. Generous support from Pets Alive members makes possible all that we do. For more information about Pets Alive Animal Sanctuary go to www.petsalive.org.
