FIDO Friendly Product Review: Neat Receipts

Have paperwork galore around your office or home? Receipts in a drawer, veterinary paperwork for the dog in another, and maybe a stack of “I’ll get to that soon’s” in yet another pile? Me, too.
So when the folks at Neat Receipt asked if FIDO Friendly wanted to clean up their office space, we wagged our tails and barked a resounding “yes!”
Perhaps you’ve seen the commercials where the happy lady (note: because her desk is cleared and organized) scans her income tax papers, receipts, and even business cards through the Neat Receipts portable scanner for MAC or Windows and is on her merry way. Does it really work that easily? Is my tail wagging?
It weighs less than a pound, was very easy to set up and connects to a MAC or Windows computer via USB. Easy peasy. Receipts tend to be small, so if you are scanning things you’ve purchased throughout the year for income tax purposes, this is definitely one of those “Santa won’t you bring me one” wish list items.
After scanning in the receipts (I used my dog’s vet bills), the Neat Receipts scanner tried to recognize exactly what was ON the receipt. No kidding. Whatever the power of the scanner mind can figure out, it types into specific areas on the screen: amount, category, etc. If the data gets placed into the incorrect box (for example, a $160.20 receipt was put into the vendor category one time), simply click and drag the amount into the appropriate box. That happened once in ten successful scanning attempts.
My accountant tells me to save receipts, so they are stored away into a bag in the closet but I love the ease of use, functionality, and very user friendly environment of the Neat Receipts.
Users can cover to a PDF if so desired and print via Export feature. Want to email someone a receipt, i.e. your boss, to prove an expense? Need to share the receipt to get a rebate back on something for your dog? Email it over and wha-la, problem solved.
The Neat Receipts served its purpose and time and again, the paw-ers that be here at FIDO Friendly magazine will turn to it for safe receipt keeping. Four paws up. Woof!
