The 2013 Beneful Dream Dog Park Winner has been announced – Linda Nichols and her dog Callie dreamed big and their fire station themed dog park will open in late 2014 in Prescott, Arizona!
The half-million dollar renovation of the off-leash Willow Creek Dog Park, which is being awarded by Beneful as an in-kind donation to the City of Prescott, will be inspired by the vision of local resident and Beneful Dream Dog Park Contest Grand Prize Winner Linda Nichols. Nichols, along with her dog Callie.
“Willow Creek Dog Park is a great place for our canine-loving community, and the City of Prescott is honored it will be the home of the next Beneful Dream Dog Park,” says City of Prescott Mayor Marlin Kuykendall. “On behalf of all of our four-legged friends and their owners, we are grateful to Beneful for this incredible $500,000 renovation and to Linda Nichols for bringing the opportunity to our community through her contest entry.”
Using Nichols’ entry as inspiration, the Beneful Dream Team, consisting of dog lover, licensed contractor and host of the popular DIY Network show “Desperate Landscapes,” Jason Cameron, and national pet expert and Editor at Large for FIDO Friendly Magazine, Arden Moore, were in Prescott today joining representatives from Beneful and the City of Prescott to celebrate and unveil the proposed renovation design for the dog park. The proposed design includes several fire station-themed elements including a red fire truck play area, fire hose shaped tunnels and a covered firehouse lounge area with tables for dog owners to enjoy.
Cameron is managing the Dream Dog Park renovation of Willow Creek Dog Park with assistance from Moore, who will help oversee the project from a dog’s point of view, ensuring all elements are stimulating and safe for all four legged best buddies. The Beneful Dream Dog Park renovation is expected to be completed in late 2014.
Nichols was among more than one thousand dog owners who entered the 2013 Beneful Dream Dog Park Contest, and she was one of fourteen finalists to advance to the final round. In round two of the contest, the Beneful Dream Team, led by Cameron and Moore, judged the fourteen finalist entries based on the creativity and originality of the ideas for their “Dream Dog Park,” how well their ideas made play with their best buddy more fun in the dog park, and the feasibility of bringing the ideas to life.
The Beneful Dream Team judging along with public voting determined the Grand Prize Winner. As Grand Prize Winner, in addition to inspiring the new dog park, Nichols received a $10,000 cash prize along with a one-year supply of Beneful brand dog food.
Beneful has unveiled three $500,000 Dream Dog Park renovations over the past four years; the first was unveiled in Newtown Park in Johns Creek, Georgia, in June 2011, the second in Alabaster, Alabama, in July 2012 and the third in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in August 2013.
