Golden Collar Awards Announced

Dog News Daily announces the 1st Annual Golden Collar Awards™, for Best Achievement in Acting by Dogs in Film & Television during 2011.  The nominations will be announced at the press conference on Wednesday morning January 18th at 8am (PT) from the dog hotel to the stars, The D Pet Hotel (1041 N. Highland, Los Angeles, CA, 90038).

Canine nominees will be selected in three categories:

Best Dog in a Theatrical Film

Best Dog in a Foreign Film

Best Dog in a Direct-to-DVD Film

Best Dog in a Reality TV Series

Best Dog in a TV Series

The name of the human recipient for the honorary Golden Collar’s Humanitarian Award, will, also, be announced during the press conference.

The prestigious Golden Collar will be given out to the dog who receives the greatest number of 1st place votes from a panel of judges consisting of well-known, dog-loving film critics, TV critics, writers and entertainment industry executives.  The judges include Pete Hammond, Awards Columnist/Deadline Hollywood; George Pennachio, Entertainment Reporter, for ABC7 Eyewitness News; Leo Quinones, Host of KFWB’s Movie Talk Show; Hollywood Foreign Press Association members, Lilly Liu, journalist for Apple Daily (Hong Kong) and Vera Anderson, journalist for Cine Premiere magazine, (Mexico); Elizabeth Snead, Contributing Editor, The Hollywood Reporter; Wendy Burch, Weekend Anchor of the KTLA Morning News; and Linda Bell Blue, Executive Producer of Entertainment Tonight.

According to Alan Siskind, CEO of Dog News Daily, the pet industry’s leading digital media & marketing company, “Formally recognizing and honoring the performances of dogs in film & television with their own award has been long overdue in Hollywood. Ever since Blair, a Collie, starred as Rover in the 1905 British short silent film Rescued by Rover, dogs have gone on to assume starring roles in some of the film industry’s most memorable movies & TV shows including Rin Tin Tin, Lassie, The Wizard of Oz, Air Bud, and Benji. Now with the creation and presentation of the Golden Collar™, canine actors will have their own award to bark about.”

The The 1st Annual Golden Collar Awards ceremony will take on Monday, February 13 at 6:00pm (PT) at The Hotel Palomar in Westwood/Los Angeles, a dog-friendly Kimpton Hotel. The evening will kick-off with red carpet arrivals and private cocktail reception benefiting Los Angeles area dog rescue organizations and shelters.

The world famous artist Simon Tavassoli and his design studio BB Simon in Newport Beach CA have been commissioned to create the Golden Collar Award.
