Got a Dog Food Storage Problem? Product Review!!!
July 19, 2010 • Product Reviews
“I’ve got a little dog but I like to buy dog food in bulk.” Those are words I’ve uttered since little Dexter came into my life. Part of his diet consist of a kibble diet but I don’t want to store 40 pounds of dog food with a potato chip clip or even one of those bigger clips. When he was about 6 months old, walking down the aisles of a pet supply superstore, wha-la, there it was: The Cadillac of solutions for food storage.
The Vittles Vault! Friends and family like to tease me that I get overly excited about pet products. I can’t help it, I do. Especially when something looks to good to be true but then performs to its expectations and even exceeds them.
So when the kind folks at Gamma 2 asked if I wanted to review the Vittles Vault Plus, I gladly said “yes” since I already own two and use them to the umpth degree. I keep Dexter’s food in one and I store potting soil in the other outside. How do you know if you’ve got a Vittles Vault? An air tight “whirrrrr” sound is heard as you turn the lid onto its base. A free measuring cup is included as well.
The Vittles Vault is available in many sizes, which can fit in cabinets and cupboards or up to 80 pounds of food in the Giant version.
I can honestly say the food stays mega fresh in this container. To test the one I keep outdoors where exposed to all the elements, never once has rain seeped into the potting soil. That air tight seal means business.
So what about traveling with Fido? We here at FIDO Friendly magazine do a tremendous amount of traveling with a dog, so any product making claims of ease and convenience coupled with freshness deserves a look.
The TRAVEL-Tainer solves the day trip and weekend getaway dog food dilemma. Prior to finding this product, I used to put dog food in Ziploc-style bags, pack the bowls (water and food), and that meant more space taken up in the overnight bag. The TRAVEL-tainer is a complete transportable pet feeding system that eliminates both of these.
The system includes an airtight clear plastic food container that keeps food fresh while keeping pests out. Two food/water dishes slip on the ends of the food container and a convenient carry handle holds it all together. When it’s time to eat it takes just seconds to remove the handle, pull off the dishes, twist off the food container top, fill the bowls and dinner is served. Love it!! From a pet product lover perspective, it looks darn cute, too! Dishwasher safe and withstood tumbling out of the car and nearly being run over, too.
