Greater Swiss Mountain Dog helps kids through teddy bears

FIDO Friendly loves dogs who give back. Dogs affect our lives in so many ways and on so many levels. So when an item of giving back crosses our desk, we do a Snoopy dance and remind ourselves how truly precious and incredible dogs are to us.
Stacey is a 4 year old Greater Swiss Mountain Dog who collects teddy bears & stuffed animals for sick kids in the hospital. When we heard of this, of course our heads turned sideways and our curiosities were piqued. So we asked Stacey’s dog mom a bit more about this canine super dog and her philanthropic ways.
Maria Mandel is dog mom to 4-year-old Stacey Mae. “The Teddy Bear Project Began in December of 2010. I wanted to do something nice for the folks in nursing home. So I posted on my Facebook page and had people email me on how they help. People started to send teddy bears from all around the world. Everything went so well so we decided to collect more for our summer project.”
What made her want to reach out and give back Fido style? They started a Facebook page so people could help and become more aware of the Teddy Bear Project. Stacey Mae comes to the hospital and helps TBP donate the teddy bears to the kids. They take a couple hundred at a time and have been doing so for seven months.
“We contact local hospitals and ask them if we can come by and drop the bears off for the kids. If they let us we will drive to them and drop them off at their hospital. Sometimes we will find kids who are fighting Cancer or other illnesses and send them to them,” Maria told us.
