How to Help Pets Lose Weight and Win Big With Alison Sweeney of The Biggest Loser

Did you know that one out of every two pets are overweight?

It was revealed as part of the launch that 54 percent of America’s pets are overweight, putting them at risk for heart disease, diabetes, and a shortened life span. In terms of survey results, the chubbiest pet cities were Los Angeles at number one, followed by Washington D.C., Chicago, Minneapolis, and San Francisco.

When Alison Sweeney, host of NBC’s “The Biggest Loser,” discovered that her dog Winky was one of them, she knew she had to change the food Winky was eating and her lifestyle. Now Alison wants to inspire other pet owners to do the same.  She has eamed up with Hill’s Science Diet to launch the Million Pound Pledge – a national call-to-action for pet owners to help their cats and dogs lose weight and get back on track to living a happy, healthy lifestyle.

FIDO Friendly fans are invited to take the pledge to help their pets lose weight and get fit at www.PetFit.com. In addition to taking the Million Pound Pledge, all participants get a chance to win tickets to “The Biggest Loser” finale! You can also find out how to participate in a live chat with Alison on January 26 to discuss how to manage your cat or dogs weight.

As part of the Million Pound Pledge, participating owners will gain access to a support system[1] that includes:

  • Two live video chat sessions on the Science Diet Facebook page with Alison Sweeney to share pet weight loss stories (January 26 and March 20 – visit the Hill's Pet Nutrition Facebook page for more details)
  • Cat and dog weight loss tips from Alison Sweeney
  • Interactive body condition scoring that shows the proper body shape of a cat or dog
  • Weight and treat comparisons that translate pet weight gain and feeding into human terms
  • Rebates for Hill's® Science Diet® and Hill's® Prescription Diet® weight management foods

Alison was our cover girl in 2011 and we love this message and encourage all FIDO fans to get aboard the fit train!
