New Honeywell Programmable Wi-Fi Thermostat Gives DIYers Easy, Affordable Way to Control Home Temperature, Comfort from Anywhere - FIDO says Two COOL Paws Up!
MINNEAPOLIS, July 25, 2012 – Those headed out on vacation this summer may want to add one more thing to their to-do lists before leaving home: install a Wi-Fi-connected thermostat. With the new Honeywell (NYSE: HON) 7-Day Wi-Fi Programmable Thermostat, homeowners can monitor and control their home heating and cooling system from anywhere – on the beach, on the road or at the office – with a smart phone, tablet or other web-enabled device using Honeywell’s Total Connect Comfort Services free app available in the iTunes store or Google Play.
The Wi-Fi thermostat is targeted to DIYers looking for the benefits of an affordably priced “connected home” product and who want to make smart decisions about energy usage. It’s launching at The Home Depot (NYSE: HD) where it’s priced for $149. Homeowners can pre-order the new programmable thermostat today at HomeDepot.com or purchase it locally at all The Home Depot stores in the United States and Canada in mid-August.
The 7-Day Wi-Fi Programmable Thermostat is the first in a family of Wi-Fi thermostats Honeywell will roll out at retail locations in the coming months. Each will allow remote management of temperature settings, system mode fan settings, control of multiple thermostats in a single home or in multiple locations, and access to a 5-day weather forecast, all from any web-enabled device. Users of the Total Connect Comfort Services app can receive alerts, such as a reminder to change your furnace filter and notification when the home’s temperature is too hot or too cold.
“Using a programmable thermostat is the most cost-effective way for consumers to balance their comfort and the cost of energy. Our new Wi-Fi touchscreen thermostat is designed to help save the average homeowner up to $200 annually on heating and cooling. This means the thermostat can potentially pay for itself in less than a year,” said John Tyhacz, vice president and general manager for Honeywell’s Home Comfort and Energy Systems business. “Add to that Wi-Fi connectivity that allows homeowners to manage their home temperature and comfort from anywhere and you have a thermostat that packs a lot of value into an affordable price.”
“The name ‘Honeywell’ is synonymous with innovative and high quality thermostats, and we’re excited to bring their new retail connected home offering to our customers who are looking for ways to save energy and make their homes more comfortable using the latest technology,” said Marty Brown, merchant for The Home Depot.
In August, Honeywell will offer a rebate finder tool at its new microsite, www.wifithermostat.com, to help customers save money on their Honeywell thermostat purchase.
