Kim Sill has worked an undercover investigation for three years, focusing on the issues of shopping mall pet shops.

After protesting “The Oaks” pet store, Barkworks, in Thousand Oaks, Kim started receiving communications from many customers who had purchased dogs from Barkworks, but after having issues, were unable to return the dogs due to store policy.
Barkworks relies on impulse purchases, false statements and puppy mill puppies in order to make profit.
In November 2011, Kim Sill convinced Janss Marketplace, the mall located directly across the street from The Oaks Mall, to donate a store space which showcases shelter animals available for adoption. In the past five weekends, Shelter Hope Pet Shop at Janss marketplace Mall has adopted out fifty three dogs and eight bunnies, proving there is a better model for all shopping mall pet shops, and earning the title “Miracle on Moorpark Road” in reference to the movie, “Miracle on 34th Street” where the owner of Macy's decides to put the consumer before profits.
Janss Market Place Mall has put puppies before profits. These animals were bred in America and then discarded to be killed in our shelters because of impulse purchases and deplorable pet shop ethics. Many shelter animals were bred in American puppy mills, only to fuel the profits of stores like Barkworks. Five million animals a year are killed in America's shelters.
Shelter Hope Pet Shop will be closed on Christmas Eve, and will also halt bunny adoptions the week prior to the Easter holiday, in order to educate the public and deter the impulse purchase of a live animal as a gift.
