New product from Mattel for dogs: Puppy Tweets™: Product review
November 21, 2010 • Product Reviews
Ever wish you could keep in touch with your dog every day when you go to work or out on an errand? Maybe you have some shopping to do and will be away for a few hours. Just what is Fido doing when you are gone? Napping? Barking? Running circles? Playing with his toys?
Puppy Tweets™ knows. Fido has gone electronic. From the folks at Mattel, Puppy Tweets™ is a fun way for dog moms and dads to keep in touch with their precious pooch while they away. Simple to set up, fun to use and a clever holiday or anytime gift, owners are able to receive “tweets” directly to their Twitter account from their frisky Fido.
Puppy Tweets™ is reasonably priced, simple to install and works on both PC and MAC computers via the Twitter website. How does it work? Is it accurate?
While you are away, you can follow your dog’s activities in a lighthearted way. Included in the package are three items: A USB receiver, the dog’s Puppy Tweets™ tag and the necessary battery. Users visit the Puppy Tweets™ website, follow the very elementary directions and within minutes, Fido’s got his own canine tweeting to do.
You are off to work. Curious what your doggy darling is doing? Log onto your Twitter account (if you don’t already have one, Twitter is fun, easy and oh so simple to set up and use). Fido will “send” you messages via the Puppy Tweets™ tag directly to your Twitter account. Simply log onto a computer or smart phone into your Twitter account and wha-la, watch for Fido’s messages. Examples of those I received in the first few hours of installation?
My first message from Dexter after installation: Puppy Tweets rules! Finally I can express my thoughts and feelings to the world! One question: does it matter if I get slobber on it?
And then:
Dexter:In typical fashion, the cat down the street is registered as an Independent. They can’t ever commit to anything.
Dexter:I’ve got a new leash on life!
Dexter:Why? Because I can.
All in all, Puppy Tweets™ will randomly send you a variety of messages pooled from a total of 411 pre-programmed “tweets” from the tag. Will you know exactly what Fido is doing at any given moment using Puppy Tweets™? No, but you will have a sense of his activity level. You set whether you want a high, moderate, or low amount of tweets to be sent to you at any given time. Leave your home computer/laptop on, put the Puppy Tweets ™ tag on Fido, and head out the door. If your dog is running around the house or chasing a ball, you might expect to receive a tweet like “”YAHOOOOOOO! Some days you just gotta get your bark on.”
We’d like for the tag that hangs off the dog to be a bit smaller. For tiny to small dogs, the tag is a bit heavy. I clipped it onto my dog’s neck collar.
Comes in pink or blue and is listed at Mattel’s website for a retail of $29.99. Check out this “how to” video from Mattel: Puppy Tweets™ video demo
We love this for the dog owner who thinks they have everything and needs a little whimsy and fun from Fido while away. Learn more by visiting: Puppy Tweets™ home page
