Hhmmmm, what to snack on, what to snack on… Ever caught yourself rummaging through your cupboards, looking for a late night snack to munch on and coming up short? Ever have that problem with Fido? Probably not. If you’re anything like me, I have a full kitchen drawer devoted to my Fido’s every snacking desires. Her drawer used to be jam-packed with 15-20 different favorites, but sadly, lately it’s been bare and uninviting.
Just like their predecessors, dogs used to be scavengers as well as hunters. As they often times ate everything, they had to have stomachs that could quickly react to items not sufficient for digesting. Even after hundreds of years of domestication, it seems as though my dog still inherited that survival mechanism. As she’s aged, her stomach has become increasingly more sensitive. Even with some “natural” foods, her stomach still hasn’t agreed. Now, there are only about 1-2 snacks I feel comfortable giving her, knowing that once it goes in her mouth, that will be the last time I see it.
As you can imagine, I’m not much into treat testing these days for fear of upsetting my pup’s stomach, however, I’ll definitely try organic products. When the Ollie B. My dog loved them and has had no trouble keeping them down. Finally, another biscuit she can enjoy, allowing me to relax as she happily crunches and munches.
