Petabbey.com: Product review: Potpourri for pets
August 17, 2010 • Product Reviews
There are companies who have products available for dog that make it difficult to choose just one to test.
So with today’s review, we didn’t choose: We tried a sampling of several dog-oriented items for Fido and Fido’s surroundings to put to the test.
According to their website, “PetAbbey.com is dedicated to providing the most practical, fun and affordable pet care items that pets and pet owners alike will enjoy.”
We decided to product test the Pure Ayre ($3.50), Pampered Pooch Dry Shampoo Mousse ($9.50), Pampered Pooch Shampoo Gel ($9.50), Wild Action pet toy ($9.00), and the Dog Sitter video volume II ($12.50)
So how’d we fare? I tested the Wild Action pet toy first. This is so incredibly cute. A motorized ball that requires two AA batteries on the inside. It spins and rocks while a squirrel-like small tail taunts Fido to pounce it. Supervised play recommended on this one, but this drives my cocker incredibly ga-ga whenever he sees it. The tail did come off after a few plays, but the ball provides hours (literally) of indoor fun, especially on rainy days when mom has to work. A unique must-have in Fido’s toybox and reasonably priced at $9.00.
This past weekend, my pooch got his bath. I tried the Pampered Pooch Shampoo Gel . This worked great, as the lather is rich and the scent pleasant yet unobtrusive. It has a nice gel consistency and made grey paws nice and white again. We tried the dry shampoo mousse after a romp in the dog park on Monday. It goes on the coat the same way a mousse goes on human hair. It was neither sticky nor flaky and we will keep this handy in our essentials bag when playing outdoors. Nice for in-between baths, too.
My Fido isn’t left alone, but I do have friends who work outside the home and leave their dogs alone. The Dog Sitter video volume II was tested on these pooches. It is a DVD that you pop in and let your dogs wonder where the sounds and sights are coming from. I did let my cocker try it and he ran behind the tv to see where the dogs were. Good entertainment and plenty of laughs for us humans. Be sure Fido can’t break anything if you choose to let this play while you are away. We love the endless loop feature ensuring continuous entertainment while the humans are away.
Finally, the Pure Ayre odor eliminator. This has officially been dubbed “the product I won’t do without” in this household. Love the very light mint scent that dissipates upon use. This is an enzymatic odor eliminator made from California Class 60 food-grade enzymes. Safe for dogs, I felt good spraying it in my kitchen and knowing my dog could traipse across the floor without cause for hazard alarm.
So overall, we give ALL these products paws up. They each serve a need and they each have a place in a Fido household. In addition, Pet Abbey sells a plethora of items for dogs and cats in many departments, so we felt good knowing we can give them some repeat business and have a wide selection.
