Petco Foundation hosts Love Changes Everything Adoption Events in NYC This Weekend
The Petco Foundation offers New York City pet lovers a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet award-winning artist and creator of the heart-warming MUTTS comic strip, Patrick McDonnell, during the “Love Changes Everything” adoption events.
For more than 20 years, fans have followed the adventures of Earl the dog and Mooch the cat in the beloved MUTTS comic strip, and now NYC fans and their pets can meet the MUTTS creator on Saturday, March 4 at the Union Square Petco at 860 Broadway, from 10 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and at the Turtle Bay Petco at 991 2nd Avenue, from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.
These celebratory events kick-off the Foundation’s national campaign that runs from March 4 – April 2 and aims to raise more than $3.1 million to support lifesaving animal welfare organizations across the nation. Concurrently, on March 4 and March 5, Petco and Unleashed by Petco stores across the country will host “Love Changes Everything” adoption events.
“Patrick McDonnell is a true lifesaving champion, spending his time promoting pet adoption nationwide in addition to supporting local organizations like New York City Animal Care and Control in their mission to save lives. Patrick’s artwork designed specifically for our ‘Love Changes Everything’ campaign perfectly captures that emotional moment when you adopt a shelter animal,” said Susanne Kogut, executive director of the Petco Foundation. “This is our second year partnering with MUTTS to promote pet adoption across the country.”
“Nothing makes me happier than when people are inspired to adopt after reading MUTTS,” said McDonnell. “I knew that Petco held adoption events in their stores, but I had no idea that they are so connected with all the wonderful companion animal groups – and that the Petco Foundation does so much for them. Their work is truly impressive.”
Throughout the “Love Changes Everything" campaign, pet parents making a donation of $10 or more at a Petco or Unleashed by Petco store checkout will receive a reusable shopping bag featuring the MUTTS artwork. Exclusively at the two specified New York City events, Patrick McDonnell will autograph these MUTTS themed bags for all guests making a donation of $10 or more at the checkout.
Local animal welfare organizations that partner with the Petco Foundation will have adorable adoptable dogs and cats available at the “Love Changes Everything" adoption events for those guests looking for their own lovable mutt, like Mooch and Earl. Participating shelter partners at the New York City events with Patrick McDonnell include Animal Care Centers of NYC, Kitty Kind, Rabbit Rescue and Rehab, Muddy Paws Rescue and City Critters.
