Product Review: Kong Wobbler
April 28, 2010 • Product Reviews
It weebles and it wobbles and it sorta’ falls down. But then it’s boing, right back up again.
It’s the new Kong-shaped interactive food dispensing toy and feeder. When in the upright position, it sits still. When Fido comes along and pushes it with his/her nose or taps with the paw, it wobbles, spins, rolls, and dispenses ‘treats’ though a dispensing hole.
My involvement meant filling the product with the canine stash. Simply twist off the top and fill with Kong Stuff’n Snacks (or your Fido’s favorite goodie). The Kong Stuff’n treats list ingredients as chicken liver, whole wheat flour, ground outs, chicken meal, canola oil, natural caramel color, and tocopherols.
My canine testers’ noses went into overdrive as I carefully twisted the Wobbler open and arranged the treats into the dish/base.
Dexter and Zola, assuming the position, promptly went straight into ‘how do we get these treats out’ mode.
Zola’s approach was one of a true problem solver: investigate, circle it, paw at it, bump it with the snout, roll and wha-la! A treat comes out. Snarf snarf, paw-lickin’ good.
Round two. (mind you, Dexter sits waiting his turn as Zola ensures the thing works. LOL) In true cocker form, his approach is to chew into it. More than one way to weeble a Wobbler, he says. Hmmm, no treat. Okay then, let’s try sticking my tongue into it. Zola, during this period of respite, quizzically tilts her head ala RCA victrola dog style. Realizing he is getting no treats for his feats, Dexter succumbs to Zola’s method and starts swatting and batting at the Wobbler. Jackpot!!! Three cherries!! (okay, one chicken liver treat, but success nonetheless!)
These two canine amigos, realizing as a tag team they’d merit more loot than flying solo, skillfully double-teamed the Wobbler for maximum efficacy. (in other words, eight paws are better than four).
After one hour and an empty Kong Wobbler, I can honestly say this product not only held the attention of two very active Fidos, but it engaged them, made them think, got them up and moving, and gave their human counterparts plenty of giggles and applause when they hit the jackpot.
As far as the technical specs, the Wobbler uses play grade sand to weigh it down. The sand is permanently sealed using ultrasonic technology. Kong snacks are recommended. For a lesser challenge, breaking the treats (easily, I tried) works wonders. I placed a variety of sizes in the compartment: some whole, some broken. Two dogs can play together but supervision is recommended so there are no ‘dog fights.’ The two product testers in this review are BFF’s (best furry friends), but we did supervise. The Wobbler comes in red and is available in retail pet supply stores and online. It is made in Colorado and is top-drawer dishwasher safe. Learn more about KONG.
At the end of a play session, this is how our two Fido testers spent the next few hours. Ah, to be Fido.
Overall product review: Tail wag to the max!! Leave no dog behind.®
