To Lie or Not to Lie

That is the question.  We’re referring to the couch.

A recent question on our Facebook page raised a resounding voice from our friends and fans. We asked “Do you allow your dog on the furniture?” Answers were fun, varied, but definitely firm in their stance.

One friend tells us “Yes, they are part of the family and very well behaved!”

Another reports, “Yes and no. No to the leather, yes to everything else.”

Some were firm in their stance with, “Absolutely NOT!”

This got our tails wagging and creative juices flowing here at FIDO Friendly.

How about the bedroom? Should your precious pooch/pooches sleep in the bed with you? Are they allowed to cuddle up with you on the couch? What about sitting on your lap while you sit on a chair?

One school of thought is that animals in general should not be allowed on furniture, as this reinforces to Fido that he or she is alpha. On the other side of the leash, sharing furniture is a privilege extended to all family members, whether of the human or canine variety. Since Fido is a member of the family, this group asks not “why” but “why not?”

This is an age-old debate upon which we’re shining the spotlight. Is jumping on the couch a behavioral issue like excessive barking or is this Fido just being Fido? Does this exhibit alpha behavior or just typical “I’m part of the pack” outward expression? Perhaps muddy paws don’t bode well on your sofa? Maybe paw prints are a part of the fabric of our lives.

One thing on which we can all agree: The dogs in our lives are loved. Fido is special no matter where he or she sleeps, jumps, runs, or rests. We love the canines in our lives.
