World Spay Day Kicks Off in February with Hundreds of Events Around the Globe

(Jan. 16, 2013)—The Humane Society of the United States is pleased to announce that World Spay Day 2013 takes place on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013 with events held throughout February, which is Spay/Neuter Awareness Month.


What: World Spay Day creates a worldwide wave of spay/neuter awareness and activity by linking together hundreds of events organized by animal welfare organizations and advocates, as well as by veterinary professionals through the Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association. World Spay Day provides a unique opportunity for everyone who cares about animals to come together towards a common goal – a global, united solution to end the euthanasia and suffering of companion animals, feral cats and street dogs.

Who: The Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society International, in partnership with the Doris Day Animal Foundation, the ASPCA, the House Rabbit Society, the Humane Alliance, the Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association, Petfinder, and PetSmart Charities®. World Spay Day 2013 is sponsored by Abaxis.

Events in honor of World Spay Day also take place throughout the month of February, which is Spay/Neuter Awareness Month.

The HSUS will hold a World Spay Day 2013 Pet Pageant. Participants can begin uploading their pet’s photo to the online photo pageant Jan. 28 at noon. The pageant ends March 5 at noon. All proceeds from the pageant benefit 25 local U.S. non-profit organizations engaged in spay/neuter efforts. Visit www.humanesociety.org/petpageant for more details.
