Road Trip in the Heart of Morocco with Fido
An exotic excursion from Marrakesh to the Sahara
By Maria Himmich
For some reason, Morocco does not sound like a Fido-friendly destination. In fact, some people are afraid of dogs, especially in cities. During my stay, I choose to ex- plore part of the Kingdom by car with my dog Shark and friends. Actually, I was born and grew up in the capital Rabat, but I never had the chance to go to the desert of Sahara, a sur- real landscape that appears in every traveler’s bucket list.
Our road trip starts at Marrakesh, the imperial and ochre-colored city located in the heart of Morocco. We drop off our luggage at the Fido-friendly guesthouse Riad Chorfa. The picturesque Moroccan architecture and the interior courtyard impress us at first sight. After a traditional dinner at the restaurant, we start to walk through the labyrinthic alleys of the old city called Medina. We head to the world famous Jamaa El Fna, a quarter mile from our accommodation. This fantastic and immense square stimulates all the senses.
