Celebrating Earth Day 2016

Celebrating Earth Day April 22, 2016

Earth Day is a great day to be reminded of the paw-print Fido leaves on Mother Earth and what some companies around the globe are implementing in their practices to go green from eco-conscious products to Fido-friendly hotels bringing new meaning to ‘going green’.

Listed below are several ways to lesson Fido’s Footprint by using eco-friendly-products and staying at green hotels.

The Green Pet Shop

The Green Pet Shop is run a by father-son team, Larry and Brian Wright, who are passionate about creating pet products that are eco-friendly and safe for all living creatures and the environment. Their faithful sidekick, Reggie, keeps the team in line. Reggie was the driving force for Larry and Brian’s decision to launch their own green, pet-centric company. Seeing that Reggie is a 150-pound Great Pyrenees, St. Bernard Mix, he does have a lot of pull around the office (literally). Reggie has quickly become the star of the show; he even has his own Instagram account, www.Instagram.com/ReggieChills

According to Larry, even the most mundane aspects of pet parenting, like housebreaking, can be accomplished in an environmentally responsible way. That’s why he’s proud to offer products that range from Bamboo Training Pads, environmentally responsible cleaners, biodegradable poop bags, bamboo feeding bowls, warming pads and more, as well as cooling products for humans and their pets. Their unique line of green products have been recognized by the press and industry experts as a top pick for pet owners. Their revolutionary Cool Pet Pad was recognized by Family Circle as an elite winner of the 2014 Family Choice Awards and their Bamboo Training Pads won a 2015 Industry Recognition Award from the editors of Pet Business.

The Green Pet Shop recognizes that the eco, or natural, segment is the fastest growing segment within the pet industry, but there is a perception that eco products are much more costly than non-eco products. Larry and Brian are proud to deliver unique and high quality eco products at a cost that is competitive with non-eco products, thus further pleasing their environmentally conscious customers.

Please visit TheGreenPetShop.com  to see the entire portfolio of eco-friendly products. And remember, as Reggie would say, #gogreenorgohome.

BioBag®

BioBag® is a world leader in providing bags for the collection of organic waste for the purpose of composting. Their mission is to keep organic waste from ever entering a landfill. Unlike regular plastic bags, BioBags can be consumed by microorganisms that live in our soils. Because of this, BioBags can be readily composted along with organic waste at municipal composting facilities.

According to BioBag®

“We are a small company of dedicated employees, who are fully committed to ONLY producing certified compostable bags and films. It’s All We Do!”

BioBags meet the ASTM D6400 standard specification for the labeling of plastics designed to be aerobically composted in industrial facilities.

Pet waste is not readily accepted at most compost facilities around the country. There are now a number of communities and parks successfully composting their dog waste and using BioBags as the method of collection. Some even do it in their back yards! biobagusa.com

Fido-friendly Green Hotels

What is an Eco hotel?

‘a hotel or accommodation that has made important

environmental improvements to its structure in order to minimize its impact on the environment.  The basic definition of a hotel is an environmentally responsible lodging that follows the practices of green living.’

Red Carnation Hotels

“At Red Carnation, we are keenly aware of our social responsibility and are committed to our community. We have instituted a Green Team to investigate and implement the ways we can contribute to this global “green” process. These vary from large-scale initiatives – such as a clear policy on recycling, installing solar panels to provide energy and dimmer switches to conserve it, and finding ways to reuse waste water for flushing toilets and watering plants – to reusing scrap paper as notepaper. We support local charities, conservation, preservation, nature, heritage and green initiatives including the personal development of each member of the Red Carnation team.”
