How I Spent My Summer Vacation - FIDO Style - From Homeless to Happy

HI, my name is Honey. I was rescued from the streets of California and flown to Connecticut in hopes that someone would adopt me.
I feel so lucky that I found my furever home and really hope others can give all the other rescues homes too! I was very nervous at first but then I realized I was safe and very loved. Every dog deserves to be loved by someone.
My Mom took me on vacation with our family. Brynlee, my friend from the shelter and foster home was adopted by my Mom’s daughter so she went on vacation too! We went to Cape Cod and we loved it there.
We did so many things! We played miniature golf where there were all these different animals like zebras and lions and tigers. At first I thought they were real and was so happy to find out they were not! We had lunch at this place right on the water. Everyone was so nice. They brought us bowls of water and petted us a lot. We met a new friend at the next table. She was bigger than me and Brynlee but was really pretty shy. It’s always nice to make new friends! Me and Brynlee had our first french fry. I liked it but Brynlee didn’t. Mom said we could only taste one because they are not really good for us. Truthfully, I could have eaten a lot more!
Brynlee and I were so tired when we got back to the cottage, we immediately took a nap on the big comfy sofa.

My Mom bought Brynlee and I a double stroller. We were so happy we could be right next to each other and feel more safe. We had never been in a stroller before. It was fun. Brynlee was more nervous than me and even jumped into my stroller at one point. I was happy to share with her. She liked the mesh down on the stroller but not me. I wanted to see exactly where I was going!
We went to this restaurant on the pretty water with lots of boats. We were just ready to sit down out on the lawn when the sky got really dark. All of a sudden these big balls of ice came down on us and I felt scared. My Mom picked me up and we ran fast to go under this umbrella on the porch. I heard my Mom say, I don’t believe it is hailing in the summer. I was shivering and nervous because then it started to rain really hard. My Mom held me oh so tight and we ran to this doorway on the side of the restaurant and stayed there until there was no more ice or rain. I have to say, I hope that never happens again!
We also went in our strollers to what they call a Chowder Festival. Everyone wanted to talk to us and pet us. After a while I think my Mom noticed I was getting tired of all the people. You know, I like people, but after being on the streets sometimes I am not sure who I can trust so I get a little nervous. Brynlee gets really nervous and I try to tell her not to worry because our Moms will always protect us.

Our favorite part of vacation was going to the beach. It’s so peaceful looking at the water and feeling the sand in our paws. There are all kinds of strange things in the sand and some of them move. That really surprised me and I jumped about a foot, I think.

All in all it was a great vacation and I hope I get to go again next year.
