Suncoast Animal League presents Art for Animals: How you can help pets in need

uncoast Animal League has been incredibly fortunate to have amassed such an eclectic collection for the upcoming fundraiser “Art for Animals” on Friday, June 24th.  It has been inspiring to see just how generous artists and collectors are where animals are concerned.  The art community has truly shown its kindness and concern and we are deeply appreciative for it.

One of the highlights of our collection is a print from celebrity photographer Milton H. Greene of Marilyn Monroe holding a Pekingese pup.  This is from Greene’s archives which are run by his son Joshua.  We are also proud to be featuring three pieces from Tarpon Springs artist Michelle Mardis, including an original acrylic of a collie named “Houston.”

A signed, numbered print of artist Christopher Still’s “Return to Picnic Island” is another great donated work, which features a heron.  Originally commissioned by the Sandpearl Resort on Clearwater Beach, it reminds all of us how fortunate we are to live in beautiful Florida.  For the cat fanciers, Charles Ciupa of Ontario, Canada donated one of his most popular stained glass pieces of a luminous cat.

To only mention works including animals would be a misrepresentation of the whole collection.  We also have a lovely Lladro called “Amor Et Desiderium” of a couple embraced in a kiss.  From Dunedin artist Tony Blue we have a limited print of a forested Florida nature trail paired with a custom made frame he built.

Art for Animals promises to be an engaging evening while raising much-needed funds to take care of animals at Suncoast Animal League.  Collectors of varying degrees will be able to make a purchase since we will have something to suit everyone’s taste from prints worth $15 to a signed Picasso lithograph.
