Travelin Jack Named Finalist for NM Book Awards: Dog lovers rejoice

By: Jill Lane

Not every dog writes a book…AND is named a FINALIST in New Mexico’s statewide annual book awards.  But that is just what is happening this Friday, November 18 when New Mexico’s pre-eminent Canine Journalist,  Travelin’ Jack,  will appear representing his children’s activity book “Travelin’ Jack’s Story…From Shelter to Star” . The  book has been named a finalist in the Children’s Activity Book category.  Winners of all 36 categories will be announced at the 2011 New Mexico Book Awards banquet being held at the Albuquerque MCM Elegante on Friday evening.

But then Travelin’ Jack is no ordinary dog.   Travelin’ Jack, a 3-year young Olde English Bulldogge, has been featured in New Mexico on television, radio, magazines, electronic media and newspapers.  His journalistic career began with his Dog-Blog-Travelogue followed by his own television segment (Jack’s Tracks) on New Mexico produced TV show “Travel Guide New Mexico” where Jack showcases Pet-Friendly New Mexico.  In 2010 Travelin’ Jack was the first dog ever to receive an award from the New Mexico Governor’s Conference on Tourism for his work in Pet Travel and Social Media.  Just this year, Travelin’ Jack also represented New Mexico in published articles about him in national pet magazines, on national veterinary and pet internet site and publications.  He continually travels around the state and was even hired as a “Speaker” at a national pet conference in Washington D.C. this past August.

“Travelin’ Jack’s Story…From Shelter to Star”   retails for $4.99 and is a combination story/coloring book for kids age 4-8. This true story revolves around Jack's rise to fame... from his start in a Colorado animal shelter to his current dog-celebrity status in New Mexico.  The illustrations are delightful, the tale is heartwarming and dog lovers of ALL ages will love Jack's story and book.  The main message in the story is ‘adopt from an animal shelter’. Travelin’ Jack’s Story…From Shelter to Star is published by New Mexico publisher, Enchantment Lane Publications and illustrated by Sal Saucedo III    The book introduced in late 2010 has sold more than 600 copies to date with a portion of each book sale going to support New Mexico animal shelters.
