Here we are already on week three of our month long cross-country pet adoption tour!

Working with the Humane Society of Southwest Missouri was a very busy day at their state of the art shelter. Local TV crew came out and filmed live which brought in a big crowd in the afternoon.

Husband and wife celebrating 51-years of marriage came in to adopt a dog who reminded them of a similar dog they had from a shelter who lived 13 years. Both dogs were a little skittish but this wonderful couple knew their newly adopted dog would relax and enjoy her new life with them on their 40-acres.

A big burly truck driver adopted a small terrier dog saying “I have recently lost quite a bit of weight and having this little dog along with me while I drive will make certain I will be in and out of the truck to take care of him and give me exercise plus a bonus, a companion.”

We want to thank staff member Kayla who volunteered her time to help at the event and we can’t thank her enough.

In Joplin Fox 14 came out to interview us while attendees looked at available pets and adopted several on the spot. Working with Golden Paw Rescue was a pleasure and they had been promoting the event through radio and TV weeks in advance. The shelter owner was performing in a play that night but was on hand with the shelter mascots to make sure the day was a success.

The Canine Carnival benefiting the Animal Protective Association of Missouri in St. Louis celebrated their 25th annual event.  I think we were the most popular attraction at the carnival and raised about $500 in four hours. Our spinning wheel line never stopped. Some people waited in line for an hour to donate their $2.00 to spin. We spoke to each and every person standing on the red carpet who all had things in common; they brought their dogs with them and wanted to have fun that day while supporting the shelter.

We want to thank the many volunteers who took turn through out the day helping to fill goodie bags provided by Petcurean and awarding products to each and every attendee who donated money to spin our wheel.

We finally packed up the Sprinter provided by SprinterRentals, picked up our dogs from Downtown Dogs and headed for Chicago. This pack is tired but excited for more stories from the road.
