Aside from not working and being fluffy and adorable, have you ever thought about what it would be like to be a dog for a day? Dogs have some awesome skills and are a lot better at some things than people are. Not only do they have a draw-dropping sense of smell and a respectable amount of loyalty, dogs are great at showing affection, making friends and just having fun. Life is pretty awesome when you're a dog.
They Love You No Matter What
Nothing is better than coming home from a long day to see an ecstatic wagging tail and drooling face attached to a beautiful dog that is leaping in excitement that "You're finally home!" Dogs don't care what you look like or where you've been, which makes them unconditional friends. Cesar Millan explains on his website, Cesarsway.com, that dogs are pack animals, meaning they are affectionate and loving by nature. They want companions. In his words, dogs don't see you as the resource of food and shelter — they see you as family.
They are the Best at Making Babies Laugh
How many funny dog and baby videos exist on the Internet — maybe thousands? Dogs start making us smile before we can even walk or annunciate words. Has anyone ever made you laugh that hard while eating popcorn? Rhetorical question.
They Have Powerful Noses
According to Dummies.com, humans only have about 5 million scent receptors in their nose, while bloodhounds have 300 million. When trained properly, dogs can use their noses to be professional sniffers. Dogs can sniff out explosives and can sometimes detect cancer and low blood sugar levels in diabetics, according to Bellesdogblog.com. Just as amazing, dogs are also their own pest exterminator, with an ability to detect bed bugs and termites. These awesome animals work with police, fire fighters, medical researchers, patients and exterminators everyday to make our lives a little better.
They are Loyal
Journalist and author John Grogan expressed the loyalty of his dog Marley in his book, "Marley and Me." In the book, Grogan said his golden retriever Marley taught him about "living each day with unbridled exuberance and joy, about seizing the moment and following your heart." He said Marley taught him to appreciate the simple things and taught him about "optimism in the face of adversity." But, according to Grogan, the most important thing he learned from his dog was selflessness, friendship "and above all else, unwavering loyalty."
They Can Make Friends With Everyone
From deer and baby foxes to elephants, cheetahs and ducks — dogs have been known to make friends with creatures of all walks of life.
They are Awesome Workout Buddies
Working out is always more fun when you have a buddy to do it with. From treadmills and home workouts to playing in the backyard or neighborhood park, dogs are a guaranteed positive influence and won't complain if they are tired. This squat-master is on his way to doggy thunder-thighs, and he has great taste in music — feel the burn!
They Just Like to Have Fun
Dogs don't worry about what they look like, what's going to happen tomorrow, relationships, bills etc. A dog will never say it doesn't want to go to the park because it is too tired or too stressed. A dog just wants to enjoy the moment, love and be loved. A dog is just happy to exist, and there is nothing more inspiring to be around than that.
